The best time of year to get a new accountant is…

Let’s face it: no one likes doing their taxes. Many people find the topic of money and expenses too stressful to sit down and analyze, so they hire an accountant instead. Filing your own taxes is a good option for some people, depending on their career and income, but if you’re dealing with complex returns or recent life changes, it is most likely beneficial for you to hire a trustworthy professional.

There are common reasons why someone might be looking for a new accountant. Perhaps you previously had an accountant but decided to part ways, or maybe you’re hiring an accountant for the first time. But be aware, by the time you are ready to file your taxes, most accountants are already booked and cannot add another client. Which may make you feel as if it is impossible to find a new accountant in time for Tax Day. But believe it or not, there is one simple tip that can help you decide when to hire a new accountant who will actually be available.

Getting over the tax hump

Timing is everything when it comes to hiring a CPA and there is an objective best time of year to hire a new accountant. Most accountants will have a full plate during the beginning of the year until Tax Day in April, meaning you’ll likely have less success finding someone available in those late winter and early spring months. Once we get into May, however, most accountants will start to see a lull in their portfolio. As a result, they’re more likely to accept new clients throughout June, July, and August. Things often pick up again as September approaches, so the summer is the most optimal time to shop around for accountants.

The flowers are blooming
